Eurovelo 8 en Provence
This is our short introduction video to our website www.eurovelo8.org. The site was launched in 2022, and features a wide range of videos about the international cycle route eurovelo 8 , as it passes through Provence.
We are keen everyday cyclists living in Provence in southern France. The European cycle route Eurovelo8, running from Spain to Greece, passes through our local village Pontevès. It has been "under development" for 14 years, but still has a lot of work ahead before it can be called complete. As work progresses, we are documenting this stretch of the Eurovelo 8, offering advice on the good and the bad, and exploring more deeply the culture, history and politics of the region. We hope this will be of interest to both visitors and the local population. The aim of the eurovelo network is, after all, to encourage both cycle tourism and get local people back on their cycles.

Il s'agit d'une courte vidéo de présentation de notre site Web www.eurovelo8.org. Le site a été lancé en 2022 et propose un large éventail de vidéos sur la véloroute internationale eurovelo 8 , qui traverse la Provence.
Nous sommes des cyclistes passionnés qui vivent tous les jours en Provence, dans le sud de la France. Nous espérons que cela intéressera à la fois les visiteurs et la population locale. Le but du réseau Eurovelo est, après tout, d'encourager le tourisme à vélo et de remettre les populations locales sur leurs cycles.

    It's always going to be a trade off between providing cycle lanes and the costs involved. It's the same in every town and people should be realistic. In Newbury, where I now live, an enormous amount has been spent on cycle lanes and you're lucky if you see any cyclists using them. I'd rather see some of the money spent on repairing potholes, which are a danger to every road user.

    Those people making bad comments have never lived anywhere else to make a comparison - and personally, those people who make derogatory comments are probably themselves the only bad people in Darlington. They are just trying to bring the rest of the town down to their level. 😀

    en el RU es la sede de las brompton y ninguna vi. aqui en Mexico ha subido desmasiado el pasaje para 2020 ando investigando comprarme una brompton pero estan por los cielos y es la unica manera que me dejen abordar el metro en la cdmx diario poseo una bennoto plegable pero es mas voluminosa que la brompton y no me atrevo ingresarla al metro aunque no es caro el boleto de metro lo que me hace caro es el pasaje en la combi a 12.50 solo al metro cdmx (22 km) desde ixtapaluca, estado de mexico. por cierto todas bellas en sus bicis.

      Otra opción que puedes buscar es la marca Bikerton, son las pioneras antes que Brompton por cierto que tengo una y en Puebla es poco común encontrar alguna rodando. Que bien que consideres andar en bici.

(goglie, porque no las conocia) y para hacerla mas compacta solo las brompton y poderla ingresar al metro, rtp, metrobus, trolebus, cablebus. pero es un sueño todavia ... tenerla aqui en mexico estan $$$$$ y pues ... a lo mejor los valen pero no para mi todavia. seguire cuidando mi bennoto plegable la quiero mucho. saludos

    A helmet keeps your head round when your neck is broken. I broke my helmet when I landed in a ditch having too much speed on a corner . Helmet broke, not my scull , so yes it is your choice to wear or not wear a helmet.

    I think one of the clear problems with this documentary is their commentary on the behaviour of British motorists when driving around cyclists. Sometimes, there is frankly not enough space for bicycles, pavements and cars - shared spaces which have revolutionised Darlington town centre are an improvement, and while I agree it is safer for cyclists to be away from both pedestrians and people, the road is better with comparable speeds. Cyclists should also take responsibility for wearing high-vis gear, safety gear and learning highway code. I live in London now - bloody nightmare and feel far more unsafe where they have bicycle lanes on road. WTF

    Todo esto es muy bonito e inspirador pero actualmente las leyes no protegen al ciclista En mi país es raro el mes que no atropellan mortalmente a alguno y el conductor por ir bajo sustancias que alteran su comportamiento en menos de 24 horas ya están en casa Es muy triste ver lo barato que sale una vida humana

    They are talking about mandatory helmet laws here. People that want to wear helmets should. As they are free to do so. People that choose not to, should be free to not wear one. Thanks for worrying about others "safety" but it's none of your business whether I wear a helmet or not. We need cycle infrastructure to be safe.

    Great here in the Netherlands. Motorists are considerate of cyclists because they too are cyclists who just happen to be driving cars at the time. Tomorrow they will be on their bikes again, and will expect (and get) the same consideration from other motorists.

    "Liberating" was the word that made me weep (on the inside). Here in Australia, Mandatory Helmet Laws have all but killed cycling. I'm sure that the women featured in this video would not cycle if they had to squash a helmet over such lovely hair. If the issue of MHL's arises in Britain, remember this: It can no longer be sensibly disputed that MHL's reduce cycling rates among all age groups. (This leads to a lack of driver awareness, which increases the likelihood of an accident). It can no longer be sensibly disputed that MHL's have a negative health impact on society. (There is a negative financial impact as well). A typical cycling accident can no longer be sensibly compared to being hit on the head with a hammer. (The "hammer" analogy is used by pro-helmet safety advocates). Well done, Boris! Well done, London!

    Are there pedals for high heel shoes or high heel shoes made for the pedals?

      Normally only the front part of the shoes, where the toes are, will be in contact with the pedals. Hence, it shouldn't matter with what kind of shoes you cycle. Listen to what she says between 0:44 and 1:10 in this video: ua-cam.com/video/QDpUHGpZJgc/v-deo.html

    Al final de los 70's yo era el único que iba al colegio en mi bicicleta. Originalmente de una sola velocidad cuando la recibí de regalo. Al tiempo la convertí a 5 velocidades y la usé hasta el final de la carrera de medicina. En mi último día de me ejercicio profesional supervisado en un pueblo lejano uno de mis pacientes que debía ir bastante lejos a trabajar su plantación me ofreció comprármela. Se la dejé un precio mas simbólico que otra cosa. Un par de años mas tarde regresé de visita y aun seguía por allí y luciendo casi como nueva como yo la mantuve por mas de 8 años. Hoy en día voy a trabajar en varias bicicletas. Poséo 5 y una de ellas es Tándem (para dos) luego que me divorcié ya no tuve nadie mas con quien rodar así que la convertí en bicicleta de carga quitándole los pedales, el asiento y el manubrio para que no se burlaran de mi por andar solo.

    Because of the title I wasn't going to watch this at first. Glad I did. "What we need is alternative routes so they can get their confidence back, then they can use the main roads." At the moment I am in Vancouver. The bike lanes, protected bike lanes and cycletracks has me saying "DAMM, why did I leave my bike at home. You can see the difference, with people going about their daily lives on bikes, yes there are still lots of cars but traffic better.

      William Robison Reply to your earlier comment. If you get people cycling because of infrastructure it does not mean they will be willing to cycle in traffic. The infrastructure is crucial - as can be seen from people who leave the Netherlands and stop cycling.

      Michal Zadrag I do agree with you is infrastructure by its self is not enough. We also need to do traffic calming, and much better driver continuing education. A couple of reasons I disagree with you. First, protected bike infrastructure is not universal through any city in the Netherlands. Second, the experience of Vancouver: "People who are not confident in traffic will start to cycle in those protected lanes," said Coun. Heather Deal, who is also the city's liaison to the Active Transportation Council. "And then you slowly start ratcheting it up and you see the numbers start to explode." www.cbc.ca/m/news/canada/british-columbia/vancouver-bike-lane-traffic-hits-record-high-in-june-1.3166162 Riding in traffic is about strength and confidence. Then again I don't think our opinions are that far apart.

      George Corbin Well then you'll be disappointed. Almost no one wears helmets in the Netherlands. They are no must, they are a piece of plastic that is distracting us from what makes cycling safe: good infrastructure.

      Michal Zadrag I can partially see your point, but there's lots of instances where it won't matter how good the 'infrastructure' is - you'll be thankful you're wearing a helemet. For example, oily, icy road surfaces; crashing due to the incometancies of other cyclists/road.

      George Corbin Promoting helmets decreases the cycling modal share which is more detrimental to health than not wearing one. Look at the effects of Australia's helmet laws. I'm not saying that a helmet won't provide any protection, but what ever protection is does provide probably won't be enough against death or brain damage.

      Not sure of your precise meaning of 'detrimental to health'. If you mean cycling's low modal share decreases the likelihood people would want to cycle on busy roads (and therefore improve health/wellbeing) then I agree. I don't think it needs to be a law: let the individual decide. Helmets need to be made cool and society needs to reduce the value of appearance (hair etc.) so a larger demographic wants to wear one. Personally, as someone who races, I would never start a race without one - even if I was allowed to! If I'm travelling at 70 km/hr+ down a sinuous, off-camber descent with oil, ice, gravel etc. on the surface I'd rather wear a helmet than sit at home petitioning for the road to be made safer. Why not improve the road-share and infrastructure aimed at cyclist and wear a helmet?

      George Corbin I mean that people cycle less so their health suffers as a result due to helmets giving the impression cycling is dangerous and by making it more inconvenient. Of course with your style of cycle a helmet might be a good idea, but most people wouldn't do that. If we are talking about using a bike as a form of transport, then it isn't really all that important.     Interesting how different we are. I agree with everything in the video, but I really get a buzz out of cycling at 35 mph, even to the shops. 15 feels way too slow in comparison :) Hills are the best. Current maximum is 45.6 miles an hour or so. Looking to beat 50 at some point.

    Actually girls will prefer the Dutch bikes because their goal isn't to ride like a lunatic. Dutch bikes are easy to maintain, safer, upright and more comfortable riding position, very easy to mount and dismount, suitable for skirts and dresses, sturdy, solid and reliable. Like the new Pendelton range; inspired by Dutch design. Most of the women who come into our shop are looking for a Pendleton.

    Fixies are only a fashion concern to hipsters. I think girls look really good on those dutch inspired cycles - see pendleton bikes.

    That's a crock of bull. The current trend is hybrid city commuter bikes which aren't road bikes nor MTB. They're designed for comfort and safety, not speed, but work well on roads, paths and even light trails. This is what the country should be doing. Not all this bollocks about racing bikes.
